Letters to the Mayor

After the latest Violent home invasion July 2005

I sold My home of 51 Years
... because of Legalized Crime ?

Permitted and Allowed by The City of Charlotte, NC

These are frustrated letters to the Mayor "Pat McCrory"
through the years trying to get him to help . With NO luck.

The gap in time was a point where we finally gave up.
I'm now living quietly in the country where ...

Thugs, Hustlers, Drug dealers, Robbers, Thieves, & Gangs do not rule.
Charlotte is Ruled by Thugs.

March 9, 2004

Subject: We commend them for their outstanding performance.Dear Mayor Pat;Please thank The David 3 Tryon Street Division CMPD for us, in their continuing efforts to help our crime problems here on Austin dr.We really do appreciate their dedication. The impact of two major developments with their criminal activitiescutting through our neighborhood is devastating to our peace and security.Austin Drive was never prepared for such a stampede of these proportions.Keeping up with the dynamics is very tiring and takes a super human effortjust to hold the line here. The Police are tested to the Max with this area .We commend them for their outstanding performance. Two more people shot in front of my home last Saturday Night. It is very unnerving to say the least.Regards,Jim (Woody) Williams"Fortwoody" Austin Dr.Charlotte, NC

I speak from reality.Transportation Director
Jim Humphrey NEVER stopped buy and talked to meor anyone else at all. He doesn't live here like we do, we see everything.
If he did a 2 minute drive though to evaluate the Elgywood Lane Blockade he
doesn't have a clue of the Horror stories we go through with these Apartments.
We do the Victim dance, and damage control, Lights, Signs, Burglar alarms, Camera's, Fences & frequent walks around the house to clear the criminals out of the shadows..
I have had 28 Burglary attempts through the years and two more recent ones.
Countless confrontations with drug dealers and Pimps & Hookers, endless Cars driving up and down our street looking for the Dealers and Hookers even when they are not there.
Sneaking, Hiding, crawling in the shadows constantly.
No one knows better than us what this neighborhood needs to survive.
Jim Humphrey has failed us miserably.I'm only scratching the surface of crime in our area, and the Police are getting a tip of the Giant Iceberg. That's why the statistics do not agree with actual crime rates.Elgywood Ln Closing at Austin dr. will interrupt the Apartment Traffic going toThe Hotels. to get Drugs and Hookers. They have no business in our neighborhood, There are No schools, No Hospitals, No Stores No reason to be here.I'm getting too Old and too Tired of Casing the bad guys, I'm going to have to finally Move I guess, I need just a little peace of mind. With 50 years here in my Old Home Place and a Native Charlotte,It hurts me deeply that small changes could expand our lives greatlyChanges that never get done.Closing down The Holiday Motel or Elgywood Ln.even for a test period of 6 months would send the Bad guys to another areaa break up their Patterns of returning here everyday. The Police would get a great relief in calls the City would save moneyand we would get a much more peaceful place. It's The Smartest thing to do on all levels.Thank you again,Sincerely & RespectfullyJim ( woody ) Williams

Mayor Pat McCrory; We have had another "SUR 13" Gang graffiti attack at Austin Dr. and North Tryon Street by the Holiday Motel. On the Triangle Rental Car Business. 6000 N. Tryon.also at the corner of Canterwood dr. and Elgywood ln.Maybe more in the vicinity. This Problem was brought to your attention back in September, and a Gang member roundup was conducted.Apparently the point wasn't taken by the Gangs. With the outrageous amount of Crime in our neighborhood. We get constant reminders that we cannot rest.My home has had another recent burglary attempt last week, that's three times since fall. With robberies just feet from my door & two people shot in my driveway, Police chases and Manhunts with Helicopter & Dogs where my property is searched from head to toe twice within twelve hours. What the am I to expect ???We begged to have Elgywood lane closed at Austin dr.Due to High Crime cut through traffic and the use of Austin dr. as a drug corridor.DOT does nothing. We begged for years to have the "Holiday Motel" closed for good, with all of it's Shootings, Drug and Hooker activity.Nothing happened. They are still in business.People who do not live on our street do not have a clue what we go through.Decisions about our quality of life are made in other parts of town that are secure and peaceful.Walk a Mile in our shoes.Visit Austin Dr on a Saturday night between 6:pm & 2:amSee what we see, feel the fear. The constant shaking of our heads in discuss will not help.We need People that can make changes now.People with the power to listen to our voice and do something. The Police can't keep up with all that happens here.God knows that have tried. The trickle down effect of these never ending traumatic events is lining ourminds with Fear & Anger. We sit here in a low boil wondering when we will loose our restraint and finally explode. The US Constitution states we have the RIGHT for the pursuit of Happiness.Something that has been missing from our street for a long time. With regrets... The Gangs are back.James Williams302 Austin Dr.Charlotte, NC 28213====================================================

Mayor McCrory;Thank you for your assistance and quick dispatch in our serious crimeissues. You have been most helpful. We are forced to call the Police so often,I'm afraid they become jaded to our needs.I dislike calling as much as I do, but we have special circumstances hereThat other neighborhood members do NOT involve themselves with, as they are a big part of our Crime problems.and would never call the Police on their own relatives.Just getting the Serious crimes addressed makes us feel like a nuisancewhen smaller crime issues pop up, and we tend to let them slide.I often wonder if we are being conditioned to accept levels of crimethat we would never have excepted before. Two major development areas have been thrust into our tiny little street. There is a Stampede of Traffic, Crime, Garbage, Noise, Gang activity, Pimps, Drug Dealers, Shooters, using our Austin Dr. as a CUT Through to North Tryon St.all week long, then it gets worse during the weekends. No one would live like this in their right mind, but I'm to Old to move from a housethat has been paid for 30 years. We think the Outlaws should have to behave. Moving is an insult !!!!But I sure could use a good dose of country life right now.Thank you again,Best regards....Jim Williams302 Austin Dr.Charlotte, NC 28213

Council Member Graham;Thank you for making contact with me.This area of North Tryon at Austin Dr.Has begged for 50 years to shut down these Hooker housescalled motels at 6000 North Tryon St.The Star Motel The Holiday MotelI have lived here for 50 yearsand have seem their unending Cancer on the Community. When they have another murder they simply change their Motel's nameand keep right on with Business as Usual. They are the Corner stone to 90% of all our crime. The Numbers Look terrible for just a ten block area last year.Murder, Armed Robbery, Home Invasion, Bank Robberies, Rape, Gang Drug Pimps.Over 1000 serious crimes and 92% of them still remain unsolved. That tells us Little is being done to prevent the crimes, and little is being done to solve them. Then WHAT IS BEING DONE ????I see and talk with the Police almost every day here.I am totally involved doing everything I can in my powers to stop it.If been shot at so many times, I can't count them. The Police are being run ragged just chasing down all the calls.Another high speed chase and CRASH in front of my house two days ago.The outlaws got away, and they threw out Guns or Drugs, in which they came back looking for yesterday. I feel like, We as a community are being conditioned to except more & more levelsof crime and get use to the fact that "Don't Bother" nothing can be done about it.This neighborhood, I grew up in is a crying Shame. I'm sorry I live here.I have to tell my friends and relatives Never come by after dark in fear for their lives. So I don't get many visitors any more.Only major changes will get our attention anymore. We have seen too many Council members & Mayors come and goand leave us in this same sad sad mess. But they did manage to double my Property Tax this year.Thank you Commissioner HELMS.When the Value of my property is really at it's lowest point in decadesDue to living in a Crime infested Neighborhood.Best regards...Jim Williams302 Austin Dr.Charlotte, NC 28213

Dear Chief Darrel Stephens;Along with other members of our neighborhood we try to gatherinformation to slow down drug dealing and crime in our community.More and more often we are noticing that people driving throughour :HiddenValley Community" are disconnecting their tag lights so we can't get their tag numbers at night. This may be a new trend because as many as 40% of the night time traffic has something wrong with their Tag. Making it very difficult to give the suspects or violators Tag Numbers to the Police Officers.Would it be possible to step up tickets for tag light violations in our area ?It would help us help the Police. If we shine a flashlight on the vehicle, then they know who is trying to get their tag, and will come back later with drive by shootings and other forms of intimidation. Many of the tag Light violations are on New Cars with current Inspections, leading us to believe they disconnect their tag lights as soon as the Car is inspected, possible going an Entire year before their next Vehicle inspection.Problem Area,...Austin Drive entering HiddenValley.Thank you very much for concern with our problem.Best regards, Jim WilliamsJim Williams302 Austin Dr.Charlotte, NC 28213704 509 6963
